Eddie Hearn 'Anticipates' Anthony Joshua's Return to the Ring After Tragic Accident
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn expresses his belief that British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will resume his boxing career, despite the recent loss of two close friends in a devastating road traffic accident in Nigeria. While acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding Joshua's future, Hearn emphasizes the fighter's passion for the sport.
The 36-year-old Joshua suffered minor injuries in the accident, which tragically claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif 'Latz' Ayodele on December 29. Despite the emotional turmoil, Joshua demonstrated his determination by returning to training in January, sharing a video of his workout routine on social media with the caption 'mental strength therapy'.
Hearn, who has been a key figure in Joshua's professional career since his Olympic gold medal in 2012, believes Joshua will soon be back in the ring. In an interview with First Round TV, Hearn stated, 'I don't think there are any guarantees he fights again, but at the same time, I expect him to, because it is something that he loves.'
He further explained, 'And it is something he can carry those guys with him through as well, and it is something he wants to do. From a boxing sense, physically, it wasn't easy what he went through either. People probably don't realize the extent of that.'
Despite Joshua's recent training efforts, Hearn acknowledges that he is not yet ready to resume full boxing training. This tragic event has undoubtedly left a profound impact on Joshua, and his return to the ring will be a testament to his resilience and love for the sport.
