The Assembly recently hosted a public hearing to discuss their Medium-Term Development Plan Budget, a strategic initiative spanning 2026 to 2029. This plan aims to revolutionize the district's development trajectory, and the hearing provided a platform for diverse stakeholders to contribute their ideas and concerns.
Here's the catch: the Assembly requires a staggering GHc453,020 million to bring this vision to life. District Planning Officer, Mr. Theophilus Tamatey-Agbo, revealed a meticulously designed roadmap, with 137 activities planned for 2026 alone. But wait, there's more! The Assembly has ambitious plans for the following years, with 120 projects in 2027, 101 in 2028, and a whopping 121 projects in 2029.
But here's where it gets controversial. Mr. Tamatey-Agbo stated that the government would prioritize completing old projects initiated by the previous administration before starting new ones. This decision could be a double-edged sword, potentially delaying much-needed new developments. And this is the part most people miss: the Assembly has conducted feasibility studies to determine which towns require specific projects, ensuring a data-driven approach.
The plan encompasses nine thematic programs, including development and livelihood empowerment, water and sanitation infrastructure, educational and health services, environmental sustainability, road maintenance, electrification, lighting and security, telecommunication, and governance. These programs aim to transform Ellembelle into a thriving, modern district.
District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Joseph Armah Agyekum, in a speech read on his behalf, promised that 80% of the projects would be completed within the four-year term. He emphasized the Assembly's commitment to collaborating with local companies for project execution and skills development.
Mr. Awumbilla Salifu from ADAMUS Resources Limited offered a unique perspective, urging the Assembly to form strategic partnerships with all Ellembelle companies as part of their corporate social responsibility. He highlighted the importance of engaging these companies in needs assessments to ensure the right projects are implemented.
