A new “sauna village” is opening in Cork, with free sessions to celebrate the debut
An Irish wellness company has announced the location of its latest sauna village, and this time it’s in Cork. To mark the opening of their Cork City saunas, Hot Box Sauna is offering complimentary sauna and cold plunge sessions throughout the weekend.
Hot Box Sauna, a well-known name in the world of saunas and cold plunges, began in Meath in 2021. Over the years it has expanded to six locations nationwide and built a thriving community of wellness enthusiasts who swear by sweating it out and plunging into frigid water for healing, mental renewal, and physical therapy.
The team has now unveiled “Ireland’s newest sauna village” on Albert Road in Cork city centre. They’ll host a soft-launch event offering FREE sauna sessions all day this Saturday and Sunday. The new site is housed at the former Carey Tools plant hire facility at the Victoria Road roundabout.
A teaser TikTok video showcasing the new site, complete with dramatic drone footage, shows Hot Box’s second sauna village as a complex featuring five saunas, four plunge pools, and hot showers. The Hot Box Sauna story began in 2021 when three friends—Dan, Liam, and Luke—converted an old horsebox into a sauna. In just four years they’ve expanded to multiple locations across Ireland, including Louth, Meath, Dublin, Sligo, Carlow, and now Cork. The founders often describe their growth as something they built themselves, learning as they went, driven by a simple question: would people come to try it? Their answer: yes. Beyond Cork, Coachford is developing a reputation as a premier winter-wellness destination this year, with new outdoor cold plunge baths opening along the scenic River Lee just half an hour from the city.
For families familiar with Ballyhass Adventure—known for inflatable waterparks, kayaking, and aerial climbing—there are also relaxing options available, including sauna sessions and yoga at Ballyhass’s Coachford and Mallow locations.
The riverside saunas at Coachford are especially popular and are conveniently located about 30 minutes from Cork City. The team aims to attract more visitors with three new cold plunge baths, offering an elevated hot-and-cold therapy experience. Beyond the physical benefits of cold plunges and sauna sessions—such as improved circulation and reduced inflammation—the tranquil setting in the Lee Valley provides a natural boost to mindfulness and inner calm.
