Former Tour de France and Olympic champion Geraint Thomas has been named Ineos Grenadiers director of racing, marking a significant transition in his illustrious career. The 39-year-old Welsh athlete, who retired from racing in summer 2025, expressed his enthusiasm for this new role, emphasizing his deep connection with the team and his eagerness to contribute to its future success. Thomas, a former Whitchurch High School pupil, brings a wealth of experience, having won Olympic gold in Beijing, China, in 2008 and London in 2012, as well as multiple Commonwealth Games medals for Wales. His track record includes three Grand Tour podium finishes and seven victories in the prestigious three-week race around France between 2012 and 2019, alongside Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins. Ineos, under the leadership of Sir David Brailsford, aims to capitalize on Thomas' expertise in elite performance and his ability to set and achieve ambitious goals. With a focus on building from within, the team believes Thomas' mentorship and strategic insights will be instrumental in enhancing their race strategy, rider recruitment, development, and overall race readiness.
