AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champion Harley Cameron has won fans over with her sharp comedic timing and a puppet-infused twist that adds a fresh dynamic to her persona (https://www.wrestlinginc.com/1794106/aew-harley-cameron-never-thought-ventriloquism-make-tv/).
On The Ariel Helwani Show, Helwani drew a comparison between Cameron and WWE’s Chelsea Green, another performer known for playful, lighthearted shtick, which Cameron greeted with evident happiness.
“That’s a huge compliment. I’m a big fan of her work,” she said.
Cameron was then asked about her sources of inspiration, reflecting on her early wrestling days as a process of discovering her character and her own voice.
She recalled that the breakthrough moment came during RJ City’s program, Hey EW!, where a natural, back-and-forth exchange unfolded. Cameron even played a bit of guitar during the segment, a moment that caught the eye of mentor QT Marshall. “He told me, ‘This, you— organically— I think is entertaining.’ He added that the old adage about a wrestler’s persona being ‘you times a thousand’ doesn’t apply in every case, but for Cameron it felt right: she’s a natural-born performer.
Looking back, Cameron believes her appearance on Hey EW! helped her lean further into her background as a performer, showing that embracing her performance history comes naturally to her.
